A Meditation for Our 50th
Dear YWAM Family,
YWAM is more than an organization. We are more than a movement. We are a people called together by God to know Him and to make Him known. In other words, YWAM has a collective identity before God. We stand before Him as “one.” We are a living, breathing, Spirit-indwelt, multifaceted, collective identity with a specific calling and inheritance. And this is the year of our 50th birthday!
As you know, our 50th year celebrations have begun. Throughout the year, YWAMers, along with Loren and Darlene, will gather around the world to celebrate both our history and our future. 2010 is a time for the whole mission to celebrate. It is a time of Jubilee. It is time to be grateful for what has been and to reach forward in faith for all that is to come.
Our prayer focus for today is from Philippians 1:27-2:18. The “content” for this prayer day is the passage itself. We are trusting that the Holy Spirit will highlight aspects of this Word and that He will invite you to make an appropriate application or prayer response.
Before you start your meditation, I would like to explain why we chose this passage.
In our GLT meetings in Korea in 2007, we began to make some plans for when and where the 50th Celebration Events would take place. We considered the joy in the heart of God as we presented ourselves –YWAM – before Him, grateful for the past and longing for the future that He has for us.
We asked the question, “How do we engage the whole mission in this celebration process?” We considered creating another booklet like the one used in our 50 days of prayer and fasting. However, that booklet was translated into only 6 languages, and YWAMers speak more than 95 languages! We wanted something that would involve everyone in their heart language. That is when we considered using the Scripture itself, and we chose Philippians 1:27-2:18. In fact we feel the passage is so important, we are asking every YWAMer to memorize Philippians 1:27-2:18 in their heart language.
Why this passage? The simple answer is that God highlighted it to the GLT in 2007, and in our most recent GLT meetings in Lausanne He confirmed it in a variety of ways. This confirmation came by words given to us through e-mail to Team 3+, from the Prayer Shield, and through our own worship and intercession times. Toward the end of our time together, I was asked to lead the group in a mediation on Philippians 1:27-2:18. As I prepared for this, I was struck by the fact that this passage supported many of these spoken words.
I prepared a presentation for the GLT that linked a spoken word to the Scripture. It is presented to you below. The devotional itself allowed for people to wait on God, reflect on Philippians, and then share what God highlighted. At the end of the devotional time, we concluded God was indeed inviting us as a mission to memorize this Scripture and to request the Holy Spirit to lead us in a heart-changing response.
On this YWAM Prayer Day we ask you to enter into this same process. Let’s start in a time of worship with a focus on Jesus. Then take some time to meditate on Philippians 1:27-2:18. Ask God what he wants to say to us, the Global YWAM Tribe, as well as to you personally through this passage.
Expect a fresh revelation of Jesus and a fresh revelation of the benefits that are ours in Christ!
Then pray that we continue to cooperate with God as the Holy Spirit does His part to strengthen us. Pray that we will:
delight in His presence
stand together as one and build community
resist the strategies of the enemy to distract or derail us
increasingly reflect Jesus in communities throughout every omega zone
